Renovation of the stage equipment of the Palais Garnier, with improvements to acoustics, energy performance, and working conditions.
An iconic work by Charles Garnier, the Paris Opera is a global reference. Its worldwide renown makes it one of the most visited Parisian monuments, both for the quality of its décor and for that of its technical equipment.
The challenge of the project is the refurbishment of the entire stage-house volume, including stage machinery, from the five under-stage levels up to the fly tower. It covers the delivery of sets from the exterior, the replacement of all motorization systems, pollution removal, thermal and acoustic insulation, the modernization of the under-stage areas, and the adaptation of the orchestra pit to acoustic and thermal comfort targets.
On this last point, we are aiming for the highest energy-performance standards in order to establish a benchmark for opera houses.
To this end, the design team works in close consultation with the site’s Chief Architect for Historic Monuments (ACMH), as well as with representatives of the DRAC: the ABF and heritage curators.
